British Red Cross Home from Hospital Service

Many of you may think of natural disasters, First Aid or emergency response when you see this symbol.  But did you know that in Mid-Sussex the British Red Cross offers a range of services for the local community?

Our Home from Hospital service provides support for people recently discharged from hospital.  This could be following day surgery, a visit to Accident and Emergency or a longer stay on a ward.  This service is free and we offer practical help with activities like shopping, light housework, companionship and collecting prescriptions for between 2-4 hours a week for 4 weeks.

Sometimes getting to and from medical appointments can be tricky because public transport is not easily accessible.  Our Transport and Escort service provides a car and driver to pick you up from your home, take you to your appointment and return you.  A reasonable charge is made for this service and booking in advance is essential.

Our Equipment Loan service lends out items such as commodes, wheelchairs, backrests and bed cradles. If you are unable to come into our centres in Haywards Heath or Burgess Hill, a delivery service is available for a small fee.

All of these services are delivered by a dedicated team of trained volunteers and we are always actively seeking more recruits to join our team.  If you are able to offer an hour or two in order to support people in the Bolney area through any of these services, we would be delighted to hear from you.

For referrals to any of these services call 0800 0280 831

Poppy organiser wanted for Bolney

We are trying to find a new Poppy Organiser/s
for Bolney so that vital funds can continue to be raised for our Servicemen, women and their families.
Can you or a team of friends help keep the Appeal going?

Poppy Organisers don't need a military connection, they just need to be organised and enjoy interacting with others.
The role involves ordering stock, distributing poppy boxes, liaising with local businesses, co-ordinating and recruiting collectors, recording funds etc. It requires commitment, but is a varied & rewarding role.
You will be focusing most of your efforts on the appeal between September and November, with some occasional admin work from July onwards.

The work is fun, worthwhile, rewarding and a great addition to your CV.  Training is provided and expenses are reimbursable.

Open Day to see the Community Action Plan

Bolney Village Community Action Plan

Following the survey completed last year the draft Village Action Plan has now been drawn up.
You are invited to see copies of the draft plan at an open session at the Rawson Hall on

Saturday 28th April 2012.

from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon

On display will be some of the initiatives we believe should be at the forefront of our action plan.

Please come along to see what has been proposed.

The action plan was borne out of your responses in the Village survey and it needs your support and input to make it come to fruition.

We are looking for volunteers to take on some of the actions – the greater the input the sooner things will be achieved. By taking on some of the work it becomes your opportunity to make the things you want to happen actually occur. As time progresses priorities change and the working parties will be able to shape the work they are undertaking.

We look forward to meeting you on 28th April and discussing the future actions for Bolney.
